27 March 1746: A detachment of 500 Hessian troops commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel de la Primaudaye arrived at Wade’s Taybridge, Aberfeldy where they established a defensible bridgehead on the far side to guard against any Jacobite attack.
27 March 1943: Royal Navy Avenger-class escort carrier HMS Dasher (D37) suffered a major internal explosion and sank in the Firth of Clyde, midway between the Isle of Arran and Ardrossan. Questions still remain about the cause of the sinking and the burial location of many who died.
