10 May 1307: At Loudoun Hill, Robert the Bruce and his small force shattered the charge of Aymer de Valence’s heavy cavalry on well-prepared ground on the old Roman road (now the A71).
10 May 1719: Royal Navy warships Worcester, Enterprise and Flamborough bombarded Eilean Donan Castle which was being used as the main Jacobite magazine and held by 45 Spanish troops. The garrison would surrender the following day.
