12 May 563: Columba and twelve companions land on the island of Iona, where they would establish a monastery. The island of Iona is said to have been granted to Columba by King Conall of Dál Riata.
12 May 1746: Alexander Macdonald of Glencoe’s Regiment surrendered their arms to Major-General John Campbell of Mamore at his camp in Appin. Mamore allowed the common men to return home but detained the gentlemen of the regiment.
